Map and directions

The Hotel map block waits for a guest to choose Load map before contacting OpenStreetMap.

On this page

Set the location

  1. Open your property's location in your preferred map service and find its latitude and longitude.
  2. Open Haldane → Hotel details.
  3. Enter Map latitude and Map longitude as decimal numbers, without degree symbols.
  4. Optionally add a Directions URL for your preferred directions page.
  5. Select Save Changes.

Latitude runs from −90 to 90 and longitude from −180 to 180. Check the sign and order carefully. Coordinates are not looked up from the address. Both are required; the map is hidden on the public site if either is missing.

Add the map to a page

  1. Edit your Contact page or another page.
  2. Insert the Hotel map block.
  3. Save and open the public page.
  4. Confirm the consent text and Load map button appear first.
  5. Select Load map and check the marker is at your property.

You can also insert the toolkit's Contact, map and enquiry pattern. The theme's core “Finding your way here” pattern uses an illustrated image; replace or supplement it with Hotel map if you need an interactive map.

What loads and when

Before the guest selects Load map, the block makes no request to OpenStreetMap and contains no loaded map iframe. Selecting the button creates an OpenStreetMap embed. That service then receives the guest's connection information, including IP address, and browser details.

No API key is needed. The block does not store a lasting consent preference, so the visitor is asked again on a later page load. Include the service in your privacy notice if you use this map.

Directions and testing

Get directions is a separate ordinary link. It uses your configured Directions URL, or an OpenStreetMap directions link based on the coordinates if the field is empty. Following that link contacts the destination service.

Test directions from a phone as well as a desktop. If the embedded map does not load, check that your browser or content-security policy allows the OpenStreetMap iframe. Guests can still use the directions link.
