A morning along the headland

A path above the bay, a flask of coffee and no particular hurry.

A walking path above the bay

The path starts at the garden gate. Turn towards the water and keep the low stone wall on your right. Before long, the house disappears behind the trees.

We like to go before breakfast, when the air is still cool and the bay is quiet. There are a few steep stretches in the first half hour. Take your time. The view opens up once you reach the ridge.

What to take with you

Good shoes make the walk easier. Bring water, a hat and a light layer for the breeze on the headland. If you are staying out for the morning, ask the kitchen to pack a picnic the night before.

  • Allow two to three hours for the full loop.
  • Take the shorter path back if the weather changes.
  • Tell the team where you plan to walk.
  • Keep to the marked paths and close gates behind you.

A place to stop

Just beyond the ridge, a narrow path leads to a sheltered patch of grass. It is a good place to open the flask and watch the boats leave the harbour. On a clear morning you can trace the coast much further than you might expect.

The return route follows the lower path above the beach. By the time you reach the garden gate, breakfast is on the terrace and someone will have put the coffee on.

Before you set out

The coastal weather can change quickly. Ask us about conditions and routes that suit your pace. Some paths are uneven and exposed, and the beach route depends on the tide.
